INTERVIEW: One-On-One with Mackenzie Phillips

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

If there are  two people in this world I would love to sit down with over a great cup of coffee, or a big bowl of pasta and a glass of Cabernet, I am sure you could guess who it would be. Hello Bucket List!!! — Oprah and Ellen of course. No big surprise there. But there has been a story I have been chasing for over a  year. Why? Because she fascinates me. She always fascinated me. Her life story. Her father–  singer of one of my favorite music bands OF ALL TIME. She– a childhood star, who seemed to have it all, and then somehow fell off the right path along the way.

This is my candid interview with Mackenzie Phillips – actress, musician, mother, bestselling author, recovering addict, incest survivor, animal lover, and all around, kind human being. We could have talked for hours– two honest women, just trying to do the best we can in this world.

Spring Cleaning

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

It’s March Ladies! Spring is in the air. Out with the old, in with the new!

I was hoping to check in yesterday, but unfortunately I caught my son’s stomach flu and spent the night and day in the toilet. Fun stuff! It was great to take a total time out from my life, and I thoroughly enjoyed it (in between the bathroom visits). I watched my hunky Robert Pattinson on the View, who was just too weird to handle, but anyhow. I caught up on some Tivo, and even started watching The Reader.

But back to March. I love Spring and all its cleaning. In the next few weeks, I’ll clean out my garage, my cupboards, the kids closets, my closets and more. Actually, I have a funny story about spring cleaning. A few years ago, when I was working my LONG days at my company, we had a new nanny start with us. It was her first week on the job, and while I was working, and my son was napping, Miss Proactive took it upon herself to help me in a spring clean up. She started with my husband’s night table as she saw that area needed immediate attention. We didn’t realize she had actually cleaned it until we got into bed that night and my husband went to throw a receipt in his drawer, and saw his PLAYBOY MAGAZINE AND PORNO neatly organized in the top drawer!!! “Don’t tell me she cleaned out my night table!” he nervously asked. “Wow look at that! It’s so neat and great!” I replied excitedly. The short in the long being, without making my husband  look like a complete horn-dog, we had ended up with the porno DVD from a Chanukah party gift exchange (don’t ask), and the Playboy mag he had bought with me cuz he just loved the girl on the cover. It slips my mind now who it was… I think it was Denise Richards.

Becoming A Confident Woman of Action

Monday, March 1st, 2010

“Sometimes you have to let everything go – purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything – whatever is bringing you down – get rid of it. Because you will find that when you are free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.”

~ Tina Turner

I love Tina Turner and everything she stands for – confidence, tenacity, resilience, woman of action. If I asked you who you consider to be a woman of action, what would you answer?
Gloria Steinem? Oprah Winfrey? Hillary Clinton? Eunice Kennedy Shriver?

When I think about the woman I am and the woman I want to become, I realize that much work is to be done.  It’s true, I’m only 34, and I hopefully have many more years of life experiences and growth ahead of me, but I have such a thirst for knowledge and creating a better version of myself, it gets tiresome sometimes. I am constantly striving to achieve a life that’s meaningful, impactful, while still managing to have a kick-ass good ‘ol time in the process. It’s true that our life experiences help shape us into the person we are, but it is up to us to decide what version of ourselves we want to be in the future.

Tuesday Tidbits

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Hi Ladies,

I just finished a Ballet Body class at the gym, and it felt great. I have barely gone to the gym in the past 6 weeks as I’ve been working day and night on my business book. It’s been exhausting but very rewarding.

I wanted to keep you up to date on a few things, as you, my readers should always be the first to know.

Firstly, I wanna give a shout out to Brooke Burke of ModernMom.com for loving the concept of The Bucket List, and spreading it with her readers. I love ModernMom.com (and my husband LOVES Brooke) and it’s great to be Blogging over there with such a great group. I told Brooke she is like my soul sister and we are alike in many ways. Please read Brooke’s Bucket List. I encourage you to make your own Bucket List, and post them right here! Do it! It’s a great way to get off the fence in your life and finally delve into something you’ve wanted to do for so long. It’s also fun to dream.

You will notice over the next week or so, a new revamped look for the site. I was fortunate enough to be approached by one of the world’s largest media companies, Glam Media, to place advertisements on my Blog. The ads on the Blog will be from some of the world’s largest and best company’s targeted towards women of course, and not junk ads. It’s very exciting. Articles will also be a lot easier to find now, and a few things that bother me about the site, (like the tiny font and other stuff) will be fixed. Stay tuned. I will NEED YOUR FEEDBACK. You are my readers, so your thoughts are THE most important thing to me.

The Bucket List

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I must be subconsciously thinking about my mortality this week, because Wednesday’s Blog was about aging, and now I’ve created my Bucket List. I watched the movie “The Bucket List” last night, and cried for two straight hours. What a fabulous movie. But my bucket list, (everything I want to do before I “kick the bucket”) is really a Hodge Podge of the realistic, the possible and the improbable. I wanted to share mine and encourage you to make your own. Maybe it will get you off the fence about something you’ve been sitting on for way too long.  Call it a bucket list, but really, all it is, is the 25 Things I want to do before I die. And I ain’t on the fence about any of ‘em.

Here they are, in no particular order (ok maybe Oprah and Ellen are at the top for a reason)… (more…)

Friday Updates

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Hi Ladies,

Happy Friday! For today’s Blog, I wanted to keep you updated on a few nice things that have happened this week. Yesterday was a big day. I finally finished the book! I was sitting at Second Cup cafe, I clicked “save,” closed the file, and actually got teary eyed when it was all done. It felt like giving birth all over again. That sense of accomplishment you feel when it’s all over. All 11 chapters, with their 9 key points per chapter (hence 99 points). I still have the book’s introduction to write, and of course, my thank you page. It feels surreal. I guess timing is everything in life, and I just couldn’t pass up this incredible opportunity. It’s been full days, not leaving the house (or cafe), no gym, and I’ve been working my ass off. But it feels great, and I’m not complaining.

I also wanted to share with you that I have been officially chosen by ABC’s The View (Yes as in Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Whoopi Golderg and Sherri Shepherd) to be an Ambassador for the show, to represent the Mom community. I was honored that they believed in me and chose me, considering my voice is very new to the mom community. It’s exciting. You girls know how I love all things women and talk related. It’s gonna be fun. I’ll keep you posted along the way on how it goes. So if you have any suggestions for guests you’d love to see on the show, come to MOI! Ha ha. For real!
