Etiquette… Winning Battles and Losing Wars

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

So I’ve decided that this summer, I’m turning a new leaf, and I’m gonna try and not sweat the small stuff as much. I’ve decided that when it comes to etiquette, a big thing for me, winning battles and losing wars is not the way to go.

Last week, my hubby and I went to see Carlos Santana in concert. I know what you’re thinking… how old is this girl, Erica? I’m only 35, but am a bit of an old soul when it comes to music. I’ve seen The Beach Boys, Tony Bennett and Marvin Hamlisch, all in concert, and I’m embarrassed to say, I think I was even in my twenties (not thirties)  at the time. And I went on my own free will, yes. To this day, Marvin Hamlisch remains the best concert I’ve ever seen. Oh lord. Keep reading…

Anyhow, after the concert, we went for some Starbucks decaf Frappucinos and sat outside. It was during our extreme heat wave, and it was a beautiful night. Now my husband, God bless him, can be quite the romantic and chivalrous type. Truly.  But, he’s not very strong on car door openings… like hardly ever! I always remind him… “It’s nice if you open the door for your wife.” He always laughs, “Honey, I’m already on this side. Can’t you open the door yourself?” Anyhow, that night, after leaving Starbucks, he… DRUMROLL… OPENED THE DOOR FOR ME. I didn’t say anything, but he was being EXTRA nice. I knew the reason… and I’m sure you do too. Etiquette in exchange for sex. So I figured, instead of getting all upset over the fact that his etiquette improved just so he could get laid, I let it slide.

A Mother’s Day Tribute

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Sunday is Mother’s Day. This Mother’s Day 2010,  I am a Blogger for the first time, which means I can profess my love for my mom TO THE WORLD! Mama I love you. You have been my best friend for the past 35 years. In fact, I will show you now for the first time, in honor of Mother’s Day, my tribute to you and dad in my upcoming book:

“This book is dedicated to all the incredibly supportive people who have stood by me throughout my journey. You are my air, my breath, my reason for living. And there are many. After all, it takes a village to raise a child.

To my parents Rosalie and Gary, who have loved me unconditionally and with such intensity. You have instilled in me the value of hard work and integrity since my inception. You are my sounding board, my strength and my inspiration. We’re a small family, but we’re a good family. Words cannot express my love for the two biggest role models and mentors in my life.”

For some, Mother’s Day is a day to rejoice. For others, it’s a sad and difficult day, as many will celebrate this Mother’s Day without a mom. While still for other, it’s a dreaded day filled with tension and perhaps regret of what could have been. I was in Walmart buying cards for my mother and mother-in-law yesterday, and next to me, there was a beautiful woman in her 30′s also shopping for cards. We looked at each other and said, “Not a great selection, huh?” But then I found something really nice, and I said to her, “Hey, look at this one. It’s a nice one,” to which she replied, “Oh no, I can’t stand my mother.”

My Book

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

So, as you know, last week I announced I was writing a book. What could she possibly be writing about, you may have thought?

Well it turns out this opportunity presented itself and I just couldn’t pass it up. It was everything I absolutely know and love, and have 15 years experience in. WOMEN, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, BUSINESS AND BALANCE.

Let me explain. There is a book series that will be coming out this year, the first ever 10+ Book Women’s Series ever to be launched, and I was asked to be one of the authors  in the series. The brand is:

The 99 Things I Wish I Knew Before…

Dontcha love it? As in, the 99 things people wished they knew before– planning their wedding, retiring, having “the talk” with your kids, getting fit after 40, taking up golf, etc… It’s a self-help series, and will be available at bookstores, online at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, on The Kindle, IPhone, etc… The concept behind it is, life is hectic, and sometimes we need great quick tips and techniques without reading a 300 page book. So, it’s 99 points, one point per page of lessons and tricks. Sort of like your own personal “coach in a pocket.” You may know one of the authors, Indy 500 race car driver champion, Sarah Fisher. She will be writing, 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before… Getting Behind the Wheel of Their Dream Job.
