My One Goal for 2012

Friday, December 30th, 2011

I’m sitting in the quiet room at the Polar Bear Spa in the Laurentians, where we are vacationing. I am currently alone. I just had a massage. And as I write this blog post on my Ipad, this is my view.

I can’t believe it’s the end of 2011. It seems like life is just whizzing by. I quote Ferris Bueller when I say, “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” But it’s true. In sitting here feeling introspective, I realize that life does move pretty quickly. If we don’t enjoy the moments, or have a little FUN every now and then, well, living becomes just existing, just functioning, and not truly living.

A Year In Review: Highs, Lows and Everything In Between

Monday, December 19th, 2011

As I’m preparing to wind down for a couple of weeks, I can’t help but reflect upon the past year. 2011 has been, well… one of the most interesting years of my life.

There were highs:

We took the kids to Disney World for the first time (it was my first time too).

The plane ride home

In January, I was named to the coveted list of The Top 20 Women in Canada.

Playing In Poop

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

I would like to share a story that resonated for me this morning with February now upon us. It happened at yoga class a few weeks ago.

I was totally into it… relaxed, lying on my back, eyes closed, breathing. I had worked hard during the hour, so my body was feeling fatigued. I’ve also been completely overloaded lately, so I just allowed myself to sink into the mat, and listen to the teacher’s soothing voice. His comments about why we have chosen to come to yoga class today, and how we choose to live our lives each and every day was very calming. I was truly in the moment.

So, we had just finished a 10-minute relaxation pose, corpse pose, and the instructor said he would like to share a story. It went something like this– he was babysitting his 18 month old nephew, when he entered the baby’s room, and saw this little cute boy without his diaper. All over the walls and the floor was the baby’s poop. He had shmeered it everywhere!  The little boy was laughing, despite the instructor feeling completely panicked. He proceeded to ask his nephew, “why are you playing with your own poop?” to which the little cutie answered, “because it’s fun!”

A Tale of Travel

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I know today’s Blog post is not very “On The Fence,” but yesterday was nothing short of a scene out of Bloopers, and a must-share for my Mommy readers. Plus hey, I’m the boss around here, so today, we’re off the fence! Look out for my next post on The Dark Side of Friendship, coming soon. Oooh.

This past weekend, as the end of my vacation drew near, I must admit I was looking forward to coming home and getting back to the regularly scheduled routine. We had an incredible trip and really got to soak in the rays for some time before the Florida freeze hit. The kids had a ball, as did my hubby and I together.

Yesterday we flew home, and amidst some chaos, all I did was laugh the whole way through. That’s because one of my New Year’s resolutions was to not sweat the small stuff too much. My husband was sweating, but not I!  I was taking it all in stride. Our day went something like this…

We awoke early, but that was the easy part (we’re all early risers here). I rushed to pack lunch and snacks for the boys as we were flying during lunchtime. If you fly coach these days, they don’t always serve food, nor sell it, so I was just trying to be a good and prepared mom. We had some leftover plain pizza in the fridge from Saturday, so I packed it to be safe. And then onwards and outwards to the airport we went.

5 Must-Have Foods In Your 2010 Diet

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I’m baaaack!  Since the last time I checked in, I had sex AND went back to the gym.  Well, it was about time for both! I’m still sleep deprived, and my kids are still killing each other, but hey, things could be a lot worse! Gratitude I say.

So, because I feel a little better after my run outside this morning in the freezing 35 degree Miami weather, I wanted to pass on 5 must-have foods for your diet this year. I think you know me by now, that with all my shtick, I’m still a pretty positive person. So, I’m off the somber and onto the positive. Ok ladies, it’s 2010!!!  A brand new year! A brand new chance to get it right.

What If You’re Just Feeling…

Lazy and unmotivated!

So far, in 2010, I’ve put on 5 pounds, I haven’t been to the gym once, and I’m feeling kind of lazy and unmotivated. My whole inbox has been flooded with emails about keeping new year’s resolutions, sticking to the plan, and Oprah’s 21 Day Mind Cleanse. I have to tell you ladies, I’m just not there yet. And I’m kinda yuck about it. I wanted to start 2010 off with a bang.

feeling lazy and unmotivated

Maybe it’s cuz the party’s almost over. Although we’re technically still on vacation, my hubby’s brain is back to work and he’s now on his Blackberry non-stop. Weather here has been freezing over the past few days and we’ve been running around with the boys trying to keep them occupied. Boys have been at each other’s throats non stop. Little one threw up Sunday night all over himself and the car rental while on our way to a nice dinner for my mother in law’s birthday. There I was, all dressed up, yellow rubber gloves and sponge, scrubbing away with Mr. Clean and Febreze. Hot! I’m in desperate need of a date night with hubby and a little “me” time.  Sometimes too much of a good thing is just that… too much (mirror mirror on the wall, I’ve become my mother after all!). I think it’s time to go back to Montreal to the minus 25 and snow.
