So This Morning I Got The Call…

Friday, May 14th, 2010

From my mother-in-law, that is… “Hi, doll. Can you guys come for dinner tonight? Oh, and pack an overnight bag for the boys, they can sleep over.” Um, yah, how fast can we be over?!? First double sleep out in over a year!!

mom needs a break

But the truth is, I totally feel like I need a break from the kids lately. Anyone feel this way? And I say that with obvious guilt, because I feel like it makes me sound like a bad mother. But I eat, sleep, breath, shit and live for my kids. I’m a deeply devoted mother.  But, I still can’t remember the last time I actually did shit in privacy without someone sitting on the floor next to me talking my ear off (I’m a regular morning or evening goer, which means there’s always someone around)! In fact, because this is my very own Blog, and therefore my safe space for me and my readers, I will tell you how I killed my husband last week. He found me at 7:30am, sitting on the toilet (not #1), talking to my mom on the phone, and eating my bagel and peanut butter, all simultaneously! Ewwwww you’re thinking! But yes, there is nothing that phases me, and I’m a multi-tasking psycho! OK????

So, tonight, we get the break. I will undoubtedly eat quickly (and a lot… my mother-in-law always makes delicious food, and lots of it) and then me and hubby will skedaddle and do one of  the following 5 things:

Lying by Omission

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

By Our Anonymous Man on The Fence

There’s something to be said about liars; liars lie in so many ways and for so many reasons. Liars lurk in business, in marriages, in friendships, in life, to hurt; whether innocently, stupidly or maliciously. However, lying by omission is in a completely different league. This form of lying takes on a life of its own. Firstly, what is lying by omission?

One lies by omission by omitting an important fact, deliberately leaving another person with a misconception. Lying by omission includes failures to correct pre-existing misconceptions. (Wikipedia).

What Life’s All About

Monday, April 5th, 2010

It’s Saturday night. I’m in a strange bed. My hubby is next to me. My boys are in another bed, passed out cuddled up into each other, wiped from a day at the Zoo and running around. I’m bloated and my jeans have left bruises on my hips (literally) from the tightness from all of this week’s eating, but I’m as happy as a clam. Because at the end of the day, for me, family is what it’s all about.

We decided to visit Toronto for the weekend to see family and friends and to take the boys to the Hockey Hall of Fame. They have been off from school all week, so besides a day trip to the US on Wednesday and the weekend in Toronto, I did my best to keep them occupied and happy. I must say, mission accomplished.

After pounding the crap out of a mannequin at a kick-boxing class this morning, I felt great. Ready to take on Toronto. There I was, sweating my ass off, music BLASTING, boxing gloves, punching this dummy in the chest, in the face, and laughing. I looked like the biggest rookie… everyone was concentrating, working, punching, and there I was, perma-smile, cuz the instructor was again BLASTING my favorite music (This is how we do it, I got the power, etc…), and I looked too happy to be beating the crap out of a rubber guy staring so seriously back at me. But I felt free. And really, at the end of the day, life’s about freedom and doing the things you love to do. I must tell my gym in Montreal to buy some of these dummies for kick-boxing classes. They rock!

Today I’m a Mommy Blogger

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Happy Friday readers! I just pulled into Starbucks to Blog.  I was volunteering this morning for my son’s school at the local bowling alley for his Purim Bowlathon  (for those of you that don’t know, Purim is sort of like our Jewish Halloween).  The kids were all dressed up and adorable, and ran into the bowling alley by the bus load, excited to play hookie for the morning. It was great fun. As always, whenever my son sees me at any school event, his face beams with pride, and I can see he just wants to melt into my arms, but holds back in an effort not to look “uncool.” My heart was full watching him with his friends. He was so happy, so proud, such a thriving young man. And at the end of the day, what more could a mom wish for?  Health and contentment for those they love. I’ll take it and shut up.

Next, onto child number 2. My 3 year old. Things with him weren’t quite as sunny last night. We were having a great day till about 8pm last night. Then he became violently ill. To say he threw up a little in his bed was an understatement. My washing machine did not stop from 8pm until 4am. He threw up at least 8 times and I was scrounging around pulling pillows from all of the beds to replace the previous ones he had thrown up on. He didn’t stop from 8:30pm – 3AM. I became so overwhelmed with worry. Couple that with the cleaning and preparing a new fresh bed for him every hour, and it was complete chaos. My husband ran out at midnight to buy pedialyte, but he wouldn’t take it. We came very close to ending up in the hospital, but then the throwing up stopped, and he fell asleep at 4:15am. Unfortunately he awoke at 6:08am, but fortunately he was perfect healthy and happy. So, I’m not working on much sleep and I’m quite delirious to say the least. Kids. The joys of mommyhood. We wouldn’t trade it for anything.
