Sleepless in Seattle

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

Hello Girls!

Seeing that I missed Wordless Wednesday (our site was down), I would love to blog where I have been this week, in PICTURE.

It all started Sunday morning. I kissed my three men goodbye at 5am and headed to the airport. I was going to Seattle Grey Mercy West. No, I wasn’t. I’ve just always wanted to say that (I’m a big Grey’s Anatomy fan) ;)

Microsoft Campus

But for real, I WAS flying to Seattle. Where the first-ever Starbucks resides (which is so quaint and unassuming, by the way). And where the mother ship that is Microsoft lives. I went to spend a few days at the Microsoft campus, where Bill Gates and other uber-brilliant techies are changing the world we live in for the better. After being a Brand Ambassador for Microsoft Office for over three years, I went to see where the magic happens.

And magical it is.

CAbi Scoop Fashion Week

Monday, January 24th, 2011

As a Blogger, you can imagine the amount of free swag n’ stuff that gets sent my way. But the truth is, I rarely accept ANYTHING. When I started this Blog, it wasn’t to do product reviews in exchange for “stuff.” It was a place where women sitting on the fence, much like myself, could come together, unite, vent, learn, laugh, and get off the fence. It wasn’t to receive free gifts– I can buy them myself. But when I was invited down with four other Bloggers to CAbi Scoop Fashion week in Nashville last week, I said yes. “Why?” you might ask, “Why would you care to go to a fashion show?” Well, I do love fashion, so confession number one, that was a little incentive. I also enjoy meeting other Bloggers whose Blogs I read. It always ends up being a jolly ol’ good girly time… that was reason number two. But the real reason, was the woman behind CAbi– Carol Anderson, a visionary and entrepreneur.

I had only heard about CAbi- Carol Anderson By Invitation. For over 25 years, Carol Anderson, a women’s clothing designer sold her collection in high-end department stores like Nordstroms and other specialty boutiques across the country.  Her closest girlfriends loved the clothes and always supported her. Carol soon realized that other fans of the brand wanted more from her – more of her designs, more access to the brand (other than just having them sold in department stores), so Carol and her husband Jan, in 2001, decided to launch Carol Anderson By Invitation, and now have over 2,700 consultants selling CAbi clothes around the country.

Anissa’s Story

“WHAT HAPPENED TO ANISSA?”

This was posted about twenty messages into a thread of emails back on November 17, 2009.

Earlier in that thread I had let everyone know that I would be leaving shortly, that international calls were outrageously priced, and who to contact in case of emergency.  I was out shopping for a media cruise I was taking with other bloggers, preparing to leave the very next day.

The email thread went to all the writers of Aiming Low, a group blog I had helped to found and run.  We’d just come back from Boston and New York, where we had our first big jobs and we rocked like Van Halen.

If You Wait For The Right Time, It’ll Never Come

By Guest Blogger Michlyn Metropolit

Michlyn Metropolit

So I decided to start a blog.  I am an extremely busy mother of three young, beautiful children.  I probably don’t have time for this, but who really does?   I have enjoyed being a guest blogger at Women On The Fence, (click here) as well as on friends’ popular blogs. I truly enjoy reading them as well.  Maybe I am just blessed with awesome friends or perhaps they just have captivating subject matter.  Whatever the case- these readings have become a bright spot in my daily regimen- and I figured that I may have some blog in me as well.

I have been “On the Fence” on what to title this little adventure.  So after teeter tottering and going back and forth with ideas for the perfect title, I actually enlisted the advice of a few friends and family members.  I must say that their ideas absolutely sucked!   The goal of my Blog is be informative, funny, entertaining and nurturing.  I am a green mama- in every aspect of the word, although I don’t want the reading based solely around my views or advice about natural living, healthy options in a toxic world, and protecting our children from environmental damage.  I do however, want to dedicate many of my posts to providing you- readers, mothers, learners, listeners to information that you would most likely love to have at your fingertips but can’t find.

You’re Only As Happy As Your Least Happy Child

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Have you every heard this expression? I have a very good friend who always says this, and I believe it to be true. If you’re a mommy reader, I think you’ll be able to relate.

It’s Monday evening, and I officially began writing my book today. I completed the outline last week, and got it back from my editor this weekend. There weren’t too many corrections, I was happy to learn. This morning, I dropped my babe off at school, and then I took to Starbucks. I worked from home last week, and was starting to lose all self respect. It went something like this– shower, put on cozy sweats, leave in the minus 25 with wet hair, carpool, and back home to work. At  least I had enough self respect today to put on a pair of skinny jeans, some blush and lip gloss, and leave my house.

Me in bed working. My son snapped this shot!

Me in bed for a change in my bathrobe and no makeup! My son snapped this shot!

And while I am enjoying the incredible ride my Blog and book have taken me on, and my hubby is getting his groove back at work, my kids have been off lately. My big son had a very tough week last week. He woke up unhappy to go to school and complained about a few things that bothered him.  He was crying, not eating, and not himself (well the eating part was himself. He hardly eats, period). But, he usually LOVES school.  So I emailed his teachers last week to see what was going on. There were a multitude of things that transpired last week, but in the end, I will NEVER let him miss a week of school again. When he missed the first week back while we were in Florida, he fell behind. And unfortunately for him, he is EXACTLY LIKE HIS MOTHER and panics when he falls even a little behind. I can’t blame him. I was the exact same way. Anyhow, he is all caught up now, and awoke and came home happy today, so I’m thankful.
