Wordless Wednesday: A Dream Meeting With Arianna Huffington

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Yes, today I got to meet and interview someone on my short list of “People I’d Like To Have Dinner With” Arianna Huffington, founder of The Huffington Post (others on my list include… Oprah Winfrey, Martha StewartMaya Angelou, Phil Knight, Richard Branson, Anthony Robbins, BIll Gates, Steven Spielberg, Madonna). As a Huffington Post contributor and an entrepreneur myself since the age of 24, it never grows tired when I have the opportunity to meet incredible visionaries and pioneers who have mastered their craft. It’s what turns me on. I’m still juiced.

I give you, the brains behind The Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington, et moi a Montreal. ;)

Why Madonna Didn’t Stand A Chance

Monday, February 6th, 2012

I love Madonna. I have loved Madonna from the moment she burst onto the scene in fishnet stockings, too much hairspray and a bad die job.

If my IPod playlist isn’t enough proof, well frankly, I don’t know what is.

So you can imagine how excited I was to see Madonna perform the halftime show at the Superbowl. In fact, I love Madonna so much, I went to her concert in Montreal a few years ago with my girlfriend AND my barf bag. I puked for nine whole stinkin’ months throughout both my pregnancies, and I would throw up any time, any place. But when I heard Madonna was coming to Montreal, I just couldn’t miss it. Not even if it meant dancing on my feet for 3 hours, 9 months pregnant, 40 pounds heavier, with my barf bag in my purse.

But, let’s return to halftime at the Superbowl. I left my house at 5:30 last night for a “girls” dinner when too much testosterone walked through the door after hockey practice at 5. There were big men and little men. It involved the Superbowl, Dominos Pizza, a lot of chicken wings, and a ton of junk. I decided to put on my “awesome” mom hat, and buy the kids junk galore for a change, since I’m usually the killjoy who puts out tangerines and vegetables. Dads Oatmeal cookies are generally as rough as it gets around here. But anyhoooo, I got gummies, jellies, kettle corn sweet n’ salty popcorn, chips, swedish berries, etc… Let’s just say, my boys were proud. After all, didn’t we learn on the last blog that if you were making a Superbowl party, to keep the foods colorful. ;)

Tuesday’s Tune Up: Push Your Rock

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

I have to thank my good friend for forwarding this to me. It effected me quite deeply.

I follow Yehuda Berg (leader of The Kaballah Centre) on Twitter as I enjoy his tweets, but other than that, I have zero affiliation to any Kabbalist movement. In fact, depsite being a Jewish woman, there is little that I know about Kabbalah other than the fact that Madonna and Demi Moore are students.

Today is about simplicity. Today is about turning you on to a concept that perhaps you never gave any thought to. Today is about getting you unstuck, and off the fence, in a more spiritual way.

Richard Branson and a Grand Prix Weekend

Richard Branson

When you hear the name Richard Branson, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Money? Power? Success? Philanthropy? Well, yes, all these may be true, but I had the great fortune of sitting down to chat with Sir Richard Branson this weekend, and getting to see a softer side.  It was amazing to meet a great visionary who I actually wrote about in my book, 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Staring Their Own Business. In fact, I gave him a signed copy to take on the plane! :)

Richard Branson started his entrepreneurial journey at the young age of 16. His magazine called Student eventually kicked off his next venture… a brand we all know well, the Virgin Empire. First came the chain of record stores, Virgin Records in 1972. Then Virgin Atlantic Airways in 1980, and then expanded into Virgin Records music label. In fact, the name “Virgin” was suggested by one of Branson’s early employees because they were all new at this business– virgins. I love it.

Richard Branson is the 5th richest person in the United Kingdom and 254th in the world according to Forbes‘ 2011 list of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of approximately £2.58 billion (US$4.2 billion) (Wikipedia). But enough about that…

12 Tips On Aging… Not On Fast Forward

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Happy Monday, Ladies! I hope you all enjoyed your Mother’s Day. I had a wonderful weekend with my family. Yes, I even DANCED Saturday night! If you’re a follower of this Blog, you may recall I wrote a post on aging gracefully. I pointed out the simple fact, that no matter how rich, how poor, how thin, how happy, how unhappy you are, there is one thing in this world you cannot fight, and just happen to be battling at the EXACT same rate as the next person… AGING. Madonna is over 50. Yes, Even Madonna turned 50! Enough said. But in that Blog post, I talked about my desire to age without any help from Dr. 90210. I wrote about how to age “gracefully.” But, today, we’re taking it one step further.  Today, we’re talking how to put that aging process on slow-mo. And I’m not on the fence here. I just turned 35 and because I don’t intend on going the plastic route, I’m gonna fight the shit out of this aging process.

slowing down aging process

Now, this morning didn’t quite help the whole aging thing. In fact, this morning just helped speed up the process instead of slow it down. I was all ready for the gym and on my way to carpool, when I got a frantic call from my husband to get to the gas station immediately, buy a jerry can of gas, and bring it to “Lemieux” street, as his car had conked out… on the way to the gas station. Naturally, this threw off my whole morning, completely frazzled me, and made me come up with yet another excuse to skip the gym. So I did, and I’m in still in Lululemon workout clothes and haven’t yet broken a sweat today. I’m sitting idle, sipping lattes at Starbucks, not fighting any aging process at all. :)

Calling Out All Cougars!

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Today’s Blog Post was sort of like a joint effort between myself and the yummy mummies at the local Second Cup Cafe. It all started with my girlfriend, who met me for a coffee after school drop off. “What are you writing about today?” she asked. “Not quite sure. Was thinking about Cougars. What do you think?” I replied. In no time, we had about 5 women there, all throwing ideas my way, me typing as quickly as I could. I know why I never go to that particular Cafe to write. It’s VERY distracting. But FUN!

In case you haven’t yet heard the expression, a ‘Cougar’ is a term for an older woman who seeks out and enjoys the company of a younger man, while still enjoying her independence. Think Demi Moore, Madonna, Mariah Carey. The intentions of a “cougar” can range anywhere from chasing after a young boy-toy for fun outings and sexcapades, to someone looking for a loving and committed relationship.

What Women Want

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Let’s start with Sarah Palin: wife, mother, governor, on the campaign trail for Vice President… Moose Lover! As a society, we were fascinated by her. She was the brunt of many Saturday Night Live jokes. Her story was splashed all over magazine covers as well as the six o’clock news. Not only had she achieved tremendous professional success, she obviously had a marriage that was “hot” enough to produce five children. She appeared to “have it all.”

But truth be told, with the resurgence of feminism and a greater number of women in the workforce earning higher salaries than ever before, society is really becoming attuned to the needs of women. And we women want it all! We’re not willing to compromise. That picture we painted of a woman when we were little… we’re going for it! In fact, society is so fascinated with what women want, there’s actually a remake in the works of the original 2000 movie.

So, what exactly do women want?
