Your Business: Connecting With Women
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010Off The Fence and “Inspired”
Friday, March 5th, 2010By Guest Blogger Kara Maritzer
The notion of Inspiration is a funny thing. A term often heard and overused by the likes of everyone. The repeat offenders are those in the media vortex; celebrities/artists/Oprah – what “inspires” them to write a song, to play a character, to host a meaningful show. Sounds more often than not like a line from a superficial superstar.
The idea of waking up in the morning with the hope that “inspiration” in some way, shape or form may present itself – hardly seems sensible. Certainly, as I meander through my daily grind, leading a busy life that is almost quantifiably on auto pilot, there doesn’t seem to be much room or much time for that matter to welcome genuine inspiration. I can’t remember the last time I rolled out of bed early in the morning to the likes of carpool, work and life, feeling significantly inspired and on my way.
A Single Mom’s Valentine’s Day. One Woman’s Story…
Monday, February 15th, 2010By Guest Blogger Helen Georgaklis
My name is Helen Georgaklis. I have been a Financial Counselor for over 10 years. I run my own company full time while raising 2 children as a single mom both with little or no support at all. I have dedicated the past 6 years to helping women, both young and old in building their own financial wealth. My living is in managing their money, but my work is far more as a counselor than anything financial. This is my story.
I was born an Expo baby, 1967, to Greek parents; my father a Greek immigrant, my mother a first generation Greek born in Canada. I learned early on in life what survival meant, and have been doing just that since the tender age of 5. It’s from that point that I remember the very first beating I had from my father. I was physically abused as a child, to the age of 22, and had spent my adolescent life lying about the welts and bruises I had on a weekly basis right up until I got engaged to be married, but still living at home.
My Book
Thursday, January 28th, 2010So, as you know, last week I announced I was writing a book. What could she possibly be writing about, you may have thought?
Well it turns out this opportunity presented itself and I just couldn’t pass it up. It was everything I absolutely know and love, and have 15 years experience in. WOMEN, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, BUSINESS AND BALANCE.
Let me explain. There is a book series that will be coming out this year, the first ever 10+ Book Women’s Series ever to be launched, and I was asked to be one of the authors in the series. The brand is:
The 99 Things I Wish I Knew Before…
Dontcha love it? As in, the 99 things people wished they knew before– planning their wedding, retiring, having “the talk” with your kids, getting fit after 40, taking up golf, etc… It’s a self-help series, and will be available at bookstores, online at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, on The Kindle, IPhone, etc… The concept behind it is, life is hectic, and sometimes we need great quick tips and techniques without reading a 300 page book. So, it’s 99 points, one point per page of lessons and tricks. Sort of like your own personal “coach in a pocket.” You may know one of the authors, Indy 500 race car driver champion, Sarah Fisher. She will be writing, 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before… Getting Behind the Wheel of Their Dream Job.
