Friendship and The People You Meet

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

I can count on five hands, NOT fingers, how many friends I have. Yes, I thankfully have a lot of nice friends, and they run in many different circles. So much so, that when it’s my birthday, we’re either a ton of people, or I opt to do absolutely nothing, since I never know where or whom to cut.

I have friends that we socialize with as married couples, I have friends separate from my husband, I have divorced friends, unmarried friends, all sorts of girlfriends. I always have, and I know where it stems from.  I grew up an only child, and always compensated for that sibling loneliness by surrounding myself with a lot of friends.

However, with all these incredible women in my life, I can only count on ONE hand, my truest of the true friends. Friends I could call at 3am if I were in real trouble, and they would give me the shirt off their back, the food from their mouth, the shoes on their feet.

My father sent this to me last week in an email. It touched me so deeply, I couldn’t wait to share it for today’s Wordless Wednesday.

Even though it’s “Wordless” Wednesday, the irony is the title… The Real Meaning of Words

Friendships

Monday, November 1st, 2010

By Anonymous Guest Blogger, Man on the Fence

The subject of friends and friendship has been omnipresent in my mind lately. I have given a lot of thought as to what constitutes a “great friend.” We all have friends that we have accumulated over the years, some better than others, but still consider friends nonetheless. Over the last little while, I made the conscious decision, that since I considered myself such a good friend, I would no longer accept having simple friendships that were devoid of moral depth and values…

My meaning by this is as follows; our time is precious, friendship is precious and ought to be awarded the right respect to ensure fulfillment and happiness throughout our lives. Those friends that can’t accomplish this life’s mission simply have no place in my world. This doesn’t mean I don’t have friends that disagree with me or have an issue with certain character flaws I may have.  It just means that at the core of humanity, you want to know with certainty, that the person you refer to and call a friend, is indeed just that. A friend should be someone that is always there to comfort you, console you and someone you share your most private thoughts with. Obviously, this would include our spouses or even our children when possible.

10 Years: The Story of Us

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I blog about all women, for women. I talk about all the issues we as women face today. All the struggles, and all the things we sit on the fence about in life, marriage, career, kids, friendships, health, and more. And I love it. I don’t have to tell you, I say it all the time… I’m living my dream. But I’m only living my dream for one reason… because my husband let’s me do so. So today, on our 10 year anniversary, I want to pay tribute to him.

This is our story…

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person…

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.

National Girlfriends, Aunties, mommies & Sisters Week

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don’t.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands..
If it changes your life, let it.
God never said life would be easy.
He just promised it would be worth it.

be grateful for the women in your life

This week is National Girlfriend’s Week.

Reflections of a Weekend

Monday, April 12th, 2010

This weekend was action packed. Truly, there was no breathing room. Besides a nice family dinner Friday night, the rest of the weekend was spent studying and running. We awoke Saturday morning to a major hockey tournament for my big son. Hello, what else is new?! But the truth is, 12 of the top players from his team of 50 kids were chosen to compete in the Jeux De Montreal, which is a tournament of different cities competing at the Pre-Novice hockey level. My son was one of the 12 chosen, so to say he was proud, was an understatement!   While trying to study my speech for Sunday during the game, in between bouts of screaming “Go!!!” I felt crazed trying juggle it all. They kicked butt Saturday morning, 12-2.

On the break, we took the boys for lunch and enjoyed his victory. Then, 1:30pm, we were back at the arena for the afternoon competition!  They kicked butt yet again. But this time they played a team where many of my son’s friends play. I couldn’t help but chuckle, as I saw my son’s UNcompetitive nature come out (much like mine) when he was caught chatting more on the ice with the opposition, than focusing on going “hard on the puck” as my husband likes to scream from the stands. He’s so me! You can’t fight genetics. I would also be socializing with my friends on the ice instead of focusing on winning. Anyhow, despite the playdate on the ice, they crushed the opposition again, this time 15-0.  And while I never made it to the end of the game (I had booked a hair appointment for Sunday), I heard about it all afternoon.
