Keepin’ It Light

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

I thought today I’d do a collaboration of ALL the “On The Fence” topics you have suggested over the past year.

It turns out there are MANY.

Here is the top 35! I didn’t hold back. I have kept track of EVERY “On the fence request” since Day 1. Please feel free to voice your faves for further expanded Blog posts.

Here is what you women sit on the fence about:

1. Vaginal coiffing: Full, trimmed, landing strip, Brazilian, The “Telly Savalas”

2. When I get married, whose last name do I use… mine or my husband’s?

10 Years: The Story of Us

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I blog about all women, for women. I talk about all the issues we as women face today. All the struggles, and all the things we sit on the fence about in life, marriage, career, kids, friendships, health, and more. And I love it. I don’t have to tell you, I say it all the time… I’m living my dream. But I’m only living my dream for one reason… because my husband let’s me do so. So today, on our 10 year anniversary, I want to pay tribute to him.

This is our story…

Off The Fence and “Inspired”

Friday, March 5th, 2010

By Guest Blogger Kara Maritzer

The notion of Inspiration is a funny thing.  A term often heard and overused by the likes of everyone.  The repeat offenders are those in the media vortex; celebrities/artists/Oprah – what “inspires” them to write a song, to play a character, to host a meaningful show.  Sounds more often than not like a line from a superficial superstar.

The idea of waking up in the morning with the hope that “inspiration” in some way, shape or form may present itself – hardly seems sensible. Certainly, as I meander through my daily grind, leading a busy life that is almost quantifiably on auto pilot, there doesn’t seem to be much room or much time for that matter to welcome genuine inspiration.  I can’t remember the last time I rolled out of bed early in the morning to the likes of carpool, work and life, feeling significantly inspired and on my way.

Finding My Way In An Economic Downturn

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

By Guest Blogger, Tamara Arbeiter

I was recently laid off from my job.

The Record of Employment I just received in the mail stated “Economic reasons” for my departure.  As company policy goes, I was asked to leave immediately.  Comforted only by the fact that a handful of very senior executives were also laid off that day, I packed up my desk, grabbed my kids’ photos and artwork and left, without time for goodbyes.

To someone like me, who has worked for the past 14 years, through 2 pregnancies and back again, this was a big one to swallow.

My career began in Toronto in the mid 1990s.  I left Montreal shortly after the last recession hit, and so many young Anglophones exiled for more promising futures elsewhere.  I desperately wanted to work in Advertising after finding my niche in a post-graduate certificate at my University.  At first I worked as an unpaid intern, then landed a job at a big firm and worked my way up to Senior Account Executive.  When the dot-com industry started to take off, there was suddenly a shortage of talent in the Agency world in the US, so I transferred to my agency’s global headquarters in New York City.  I was promoted to Account Supervisor within 18 months.  My career was moving swiftly and I had just gotten married. Life in NYC was incredible and full of promise.

What Women Want

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Let’s start with Sarah Palin: wife, mother, governor, on the campaign trail for Vice President… Moose Lover! As a society, we were fascinated by her. She was the brunt of many Saturday Night Live jokes. Her story was splashed all over magazine covers as well as the six o’clock news. Not only had she achieved tremendous professional success, she obviously had a marriage that was “hot” enough to produce five children. She appeared to “have it all.”

But truth be told, with the resurgence of feminism and a greater number of women in the workforce earning higher salaries than ever before, society is really becoming attuned to the needs of women. And we women want it all! We’re not willing to compromise. That picture we painted of a woman when we were little… we’re going for it! In fact, society is so fascinated with what women want, there’s actually a remake in the works of the original 2000 movie.

So, what exactly do women want?
