Whether You Think You Can, Or You Think You Can’t– You’re Right

Monday, October 1st, 2012

By Guest Blogger David Snively

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t– you’re right.” ~Henry Ford

What we believe about ourselves runs deep. Our unconscious thoughts determine how we instinctively operate in the world. Our daily decisions, big and small, all derive their roots from our personal power, what we think we can accomplish, and these decisions shape our lives, and our destiny.

There was one moment in particular in my life, when I learned the true power of my thoughts and beliefs.

The Secret To Fighting Stress, Anxiety and Overwhelm

Friday, August 24th, 2012

There is something I’ve been meaning to tell you. And my husband. And my mom. And my friends. So here goes…

I have been secretly and quietly meditating for the past few months. Most recently, I’ve been doing it before bed to relax. It all started when I returned home from Canyon Ranch with Dove a few months ago. I signed up for a meditation session simply out of curiosity while at Canyon Ranch. It changed my life.

Please don’t stop reading. This is not some voodoo, organic, spiritual, granola, blog post. This is something very real making a significant difference in my daily life, and it can be doing the same for you.

On Finding Myself and Making Sure It Lasts

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

It has taken me a few days to get the thoughts out of my head, and onto my blog. I didn’t want to rush the process. I have had a major breakthrough this week, and I am hoping I can sustain it.

I just returned from a 4-day spa retreat in Canyon Ranch, Arizona with Dove. As a Dove Ambassador, this retreat was focused around the central theme of nourishment. The theme of the trip was the connection between Dove® body wash nourishment, and the nourishment of your mind, body and soul. On the retreat was myself, another blogger Tara Robertson, Executive Editor of Chatelaine Magazine Laurie Jennings, 2 Dove employees, and the 4 winners of the trip.

I will try and put into words what I felt, what I saw, and how I’ve changed. Grab a cup of green tea and bare with me… this one’s gonna be a while. I will share the lessons, the experiences and how you too, can nourish your mind and body.

Off To Canyon Ranch With Dove To Nourish My Soul

Friday, May 25th, 2012

I am sitting at the gate, about to board my flight to Arizona. If you recall earlier this year, I was thrilled to announce my alliance with Dove® as their Ambassador for the “Nourish Your Mind, Body and Soul Campaign.” In honor of this campaign, I am now off to Canyon Ranch Resort in Arizona to do just that… Nourish My Soul.

Canyon Ranch Resort

These next 4 days will be a mix of yoga, meditation, health and wellness activities, workshops, hikes through the canyon, and spa treatments. I can feel my body already start to decompress as I sit here in my seat. These last few weeks have been honestly, overwhelming. I’m tired. If you’re a working mom, you can attest to the speed in which we move.

The Top 12 Superfoods of 2012

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

The plane has landed. I guess I deserve it. I did, after all, write a blog post called ‘Born Skinny.’ My metabolism, the metabolism that has been overly kind to me for 37 years, has officially retired. I think due to overwork. I have joined the rest of humanity- ass fallen, boobs headed south, beautiful cellulite, and finally the inability to eat whatever I want (that’s the worst part of all). Ahh, the wonderful world of aging. It was great while it lasted. Now I actually have to do something called, **gasp** …WORK.

Me at 8 years old

So, seeing that summer is almost upon us, and you know my goal is always to get you as close to your personal best as possible, today I wanted to give you the Top 12 Superfoods you should be incorporating into your diet. Many of these superfoods have helped keep me in good health. Today, we’re getting off the fence, off the junk, and caring for ourselves. Consider this your whack over the head with the frying pan (pardon the irony). It’s May. May is about rebirth, rejuvenation, and regrowth. So, if you’ve been a bad girl, give yourself permission to own that… and then let it go. I’m doing that too.

I’d love to know your thoughts.

How To Fit Exercise Into Your “Too Busy” Schedule: NO EXCUSES!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

By Guest Blogger Samantha Peters

It’s hard to understate the importance of exercise. By getting physical activity we can strengthen our immune response and our cardiovascular system, buffering our bodies against heart disease and other ailments. We can lose weight and feel younger. We can reduce stress and battle depression. No matter what we specifically choose to do – whether it’s running, swimming, tennis, or yoga – there’s truly no substitute for a lifestyle that promotes exercise and activity.

We all know this. But there’s often a considerable gulf between knowing the benefits offered by exercise and implementing them. We may know that it’s important to hit the gym a couple times a week or lace up our shoes and go for a run, but it is often far easier to postpone the activity when the time arises. This is understandable; although a workout can be invigorating, fun, and even relaxing, inertia often keeps us from getting out the door in the first place. It is ultimately far easier to sit in front of the TV than it is to get on our feet and challenge our bodies. Consequently, even the best intentions often go for naught. You can probably relate – I certainly can.
