A Hump Day Chuckle

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

No Wordless Wednesday today. No Wisdom Wednesday today. Instead, let’s laugh together, shall we? :)

Two little old ladies, Dorace & Jackie were sitting on a park bench outside the local town hall where a flower show was in progress.

The short one, Jackie leaned over and said, “Life is so boring. We never have any fun any more. For $10.00 I’d take my clothes off and streak through that stupid, boring flower show!”

Joy, Despair, Hope and Healing

Monday, June 6th, 2011

By Guest Blogger Michelle Walter

Four years ago, if someone would have told me that I would become addicted to narcotics, I would have laughed at them.

My story is a story of joy, despair, hope and healing…

I had been an RN for 14 years, mostly in the ICU.  Exposed to narcotics on a daily basis, never once did I have an issue.  I had a wonderful life.  A loving husband, kids and family.  A strong church family.  My life was full of joy.  I loved my job, my career, my family, my entire life.  Then, my world got turned upside down.

My mom and I were not only mother and daughter, but also best friends.  We either talked or saw each other daily.  We had so many of the same interests and she was an all around wonderful woman.  She also became an awesome grandma after I had my two boys.

Wordless Wednesday: Noah’s Ark

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

My mom forwarded this me. It was too great not to share. :)

Enjoy…

Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah’s Ark…

ONE:  Don’t miss the boat.
TWO
:  Remember that we are all in the same boat!
THREE
:  Plan ahead.  It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
FOUR
:  Stay fit.  When you’re 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
FIVE
:  Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
SIX:
Build your future on high ground.
SEVEN
:  For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
EIGHT
:  Speed isn’t always an advantage.  The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
NINE
:  When you’re stressed, float awhile.
TEN
:  Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
ELEVEN
:  No matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Share it with a friend who could use some good life advice…

Word-ed Wednesday: National Poetry Month Contest

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Words have always been a part of my life– from the countless diaries I kept as a child, to memorizing the lyrics of THOUSANDS of songs growing up, tape recorder in hand, stopping and starting, to write down the EXACT lyric to a Cyndi Lauper or Michael Jackson song.

It’s amazing how you can string together a few isolated and dangling phrases and make them come alive… a vision in your mind, a story, a poem.

When I shared Maria Shriver’s announcement on Twitter yesterday that she will be guest editing the April issue of Oprah Magazine in honor of National Poetry Month, I first felt envy (keepin’ it real ladies) and then one of my readers gave me a wonderful idea.

UPDATE: Matthew Besner’s Body Discovered

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

I am sure most of you by now have read or heard about the young man, Matthew Besner, 27, who went missing early Sunday morning. Because I am a Montreal Blogger, I have been asked to post this in hopes Matthew will be found safe and unharmed. Matthew Besner was eating at a restaurant on St. Alexis St., near Notre Dame St., in Montreal on Saturday evening when he went out for a cigarette. He never returned to the table.

Besner was wearing a black Canada goose coat when he disappeared, along with a black long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. He is described as 5-foot-9 and 189 pounds, with light brown hair and brown eyes.

I just left the gym, where his cousin was putting up posters everywhere. Our community is frantically looking for this boy, who is described as someone who would not typically walk out on family and friends without warning. (more…)

A True Wordless Wednesday

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Yes ladies, my first domesticated attempt in a while.

If you read my blog, you know I LOVE TO EAT, HATE TO COOK.

But I played “aproned mommy” and baked these Chanukah cookies.

My boys painted them.
