Confession Time

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Alright. Today we’re getting down and dirty. Today, you are my priests, and I am sitting in your confession booth. (Alright, I’m not Catholic, but you get the picture).

Today is about thoughts, notions and ideas that I often wrestle with. I know that I am a devoted, good mother and wife, but sometimes, just sometimes, I take the shortcut. I feel like crap afterward, but in the moment, it sometimes feels like the only thing to do.

The purpose of my confession, is to get the conversation flowing. Am I alone? I am the only one in this world who feels this way? I’d like to know.

Soooo, here are Erica Diamond’s mom confessions, on the fence issues and dilemmas.

Today Is National Entrepreneurship Day – Watch These!

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Today is one of my favorite days of the year. If you remember back in April, I made the announcement that I was the 2011 Spokesperson forNational Entrepreneurship Day. Well, today is National Entrepreneurship Day!

NED’s primary goal is to increase awareness about entrepreneurship and promote it among young people, and in the long term, increase the number of entrepreneurs. After all, our children represent the leaders of tomorrow, and there just might be the next Steve Jobs, Phil Knight, or Martha Stewart walking among us. It’s our duty to inspire our youth to not only become entrepreneurs, but to also THINK like an entrepreneur. And that means teaching them skills such as– how to become proactive, how to become a self starter, how to be a leader in their surroundings, how to take matters into their own hands to create change, and to have a desire to innovate.

My love of entrepreneurship has been 12 years and counting, and my entrepreneurial journey has been both thrilling and rewarding. Second to my family, it is what fuels me on a daily basis.

Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

I once read a saying that “Disappointments in life are almost always due to expectations. When you want something, you expect to have it, and if it doesn’t become a reality, you feel disappointed.” This really makes perfect sense. But all of us over the course of our lives, at some point or another, have been let down or disappointed by someone or something.

Around this time, last year, if you remember– this… (more…)

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Erica Diamond Sits Down With Sophie Grégoire Trudeau

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

I recently reconnected with a childhood friend, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, who is as dynamic, passionate and capable as they come. If you are Canadian, you undoubtedly know who she is. Today, we are getting up close and personal with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. Enjoy…

Not many people know this, but we grew up together in Montreal, two prima ballerinas dancing together for many years, both only children, both born in April 1975. It’s so fun to have reconnected with you. Tell us a bit about your childhood as well as your college studies and how you got into TV and communications (notably correspondent for ETalk Daily).

Wow, Erica. We REALLY do go way back (laughing).

September 23, 2003: The Day My Life Changed Forever

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

The day was September 22nd, 2003. I was selfish. A workaholic. 9 months pregnant. And didn’t know just how my life would change the next day, at 5:40am on a Tuesday, September 23rd.

When I heard the first cry, it literally took my breath away. I was instantly hooked. I hovered over his crib in the hospital. I watched him breathe. I watched his little round face for hours. It was a love only a mother could comprehend.

So to my first born child, my son, who turns 8 today, I have prepared some pictures for you to enjoy tonight at your party with your family. Watching you grow over the past 8 years, has literally, just as the moment you came into the world, taken my breath away.

Sucking your thumb, even in the womb

In mommy's tummy, 30 weeks pregnant, packing to move

On Raising Boys…

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

When I gave birth to my son, exactly 8 years ago this Friday, someone bought me a book called Mother To Son, by Melissa and Harry Harrison. The book was life lessons on how to raise a boy- something I knew nothing of.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I had no idea what I was having. My husband and I didn’t want to know the sex (well really, he didn’t want to know). What I DID know, was that I was a beached whale. My father called me Orca instead of Erica. I had zits, out of control cellulite, and a rump roast. I barfed all 9 months. In other words… all the signs of carrying a girl.

When I pushed out a boy, I was shocked. How could I have just given birth to a BOY? I, the biggest “girly girl” with a childhood collection of 65 Barbies, had even been a ballet teacher. I loved dresses and tea parties! I had no clue how to care for a boy. But, of course like everything in life, ya learn fast when given no choice.
