Erica Diamond Interviews Craig Newmark. Yah, THAT Craig- Founder of craigslist

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

If you follow this blog, you know that I go after what I want. With RELENTLESS DETERMINATION. There is an interview I’ve wanted for some time. It was Craig. THE Craig, founder of craigslist (who nicely corrected my spelling of CraigsList, explaining it should be written in all lower-case). The way he spells craigslist and his newest initiative, craigconnects, is just so very Craig- understated, modest, simple.  When I interviewed him, I kept challenging him for more MEAT, more stories, more guts, for all my women who love details. But I learned something from Craig. Sometimes, less is more. He’s concise, and precise. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t all heart. Cuz he is. When I blamed my demand for more ‘meat’ on the battle of the sexes… that women are ‘oversharers’ and men are ‘undersharers,’ he told me, “that’s all I got.” So, in the words of my uncle who always tells his daughters to “land the plane” when they go off on a tangent, enjoy this simple, but powerful interview from a remarkable entrepreneur and do-gooder in this universe, Craig Newmark.

As an entrepreneur myself since the age of 24, I am fascinated by people who have a vision, and who successfully bring that vision to human beings around the globe. It seems only fitting that Craig should be here.

6 Tips to Spring Clean your LIFE

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Whenever March 12th rolls around (my husband’s birthday), I always know it’s time for me to take stock of my life. It’s the time I start sweeping out the cobwebs; literally and figuratively. Winter’s snow melts away, and all the things you have been ignoring in your life, start to present themselves again. Aaah, I forgot about you! Spring is a great time to deal with these things head-on.  And that’s not a bad thing– spring is about rebirth, renewal, regeneration.

Because March 12th, my husband’s birthday, always reminds me of this ‘life spring cleaning,’  I wanted to take a moment to honor him today. Here is a video I made for my hubby last year on Father’s Day. Hilly Diamond, enjoy this. Thank you for always being so close by my side. I love you now and forever.

Teaching Kids About Money

Monday, June 20th, 2011

By Guest Blogger Alisa T. Weinstein

“Hello, Alisa? This is your gut calling.”

You know the feeling that you were meant to do something? When you just feel so infinitely concrete—so sure—that not following through doesn’t exist as an option?

I’ve felt that twice.

The first time, I was 24. Without a moment’s hesitation, I left NYC to live near a boy I’d been dating long-distance for almost two years. (Seriously. Who moves for a boy?) Last October we celebrated our 11th anniversary.

My Weight Watchers Inspired Money Diet

Friday, May 27th, 2011

By Guest Blogger Amanda Steinberg

When I was a kid, being raised by a single mom, money was tight. But I always believed that when I crossed a certain income threshold the money stress would evaporate. I’d be free of the need to be frugal. I’d be able to buy whatever I wanted or needed.

One of the great, ongoing revelations of my adult life is that, for most people, myself included, that is not true. Despite having an excellent income – one year’s earning usually surpassing the last – my husband and I still have financial stress and need to make mindful money decisions. After making these spending cuts and mindful decisions pertaining to money, I’ve come to a great realization. A parallel discovery actually…

I’m a Weight Watchers master. In 2003, I was 5’8? and 160 pounds — not exactly ideal for a 25-year-old single girl living in Manhattan. I spent three (!) years on Weight Watchers, and for two years, failed repeatedly. I obsessed over every drop of salad dressing and kernel of popcorn only to learn at my weekly meeting weigh-in that I’d gained half a pound. I quit multiple times, but would return months later with new resolve. Finally, in my third year, something clicked. I dropped 30 pounds in just six months.
