Leaning In

Hello and Happy Hump Day!

Chances are, if you are a working woman, or have even turned on the news in the past few days, you’ve probably come across Sheryl Sandberg, COO and second in command at Facebook. She recently wrote a book called Lean In, and there has been a lot of controversy around her book.

Yesterday, when Arianna Huffington asked me to contribute my voice to the Huffington Post Women’s community, I was happy to oblige. I have a STRONG opinion in this arena. Already a HuffPo contributor, this was a chance for me to either join the haters and skeptics, or Lean In, and agree with Sheryl Sandberg.

I would like to humbly say, that out of everything I have written over the past 3 1/2 years, I am most proud of this piece. I hope you will take the time to read it, and weigh in as well.

And finally, my weekly Parenting Segment today on Global TV was on Leaning In. Here’s the clip from this morning.

What does Leaning In mean to you? Are you leaning in, and why or why not? I would love your thoughts.

Well written article. I like that you shared you did lean out and then leaned in again. I think many of us do, which is why I think some of the reaction to the book and subsequent appearances and sound bites has been harsh. I’ll just speak for myself and say I saw myself in many of the things Sandberg said and I know I leaned out and gave up when there didn’t seem to be a way. Life is about learning and growing and in the words of Maya Angelou, “when you know better, you do better.” So for myself and I am sure many other women, we know better now and many of us are leaning back in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

      great article, Erica

i am not anywhere near being a business woman other than working a 9-5 office job while raising two girls on my own. however one thing i feel very strongly about is that we all need to leanin, learn and teach each other in so many ways and different levels.

I am hoping for a world were my daugheters can live in where they are treated fairly and respect. most of all having a voice of their own and being respected.

i come to your blog for inspiration THANK YOU! for all you do

    3. My wings took flight when I started my own consulting business six years ago, so I could run my own business while starting a family. There is a great satisfaction in this as I have a successful business and I am able to make time for my family. Great article!

I’m trying to lean in… it’s hard, though, and I suffer from major mommy guilt… as much as I love writing and doing what I’m doing, and working full-time outside the home, I wonder… am I doing the right thing? Won’t my children benefit more if I was at home, full-time? It’s a struggle, certainly…
