I wholeheartedly agree with you Internships are the greatest things a young adult can undertake in their life as they embark on a career. Parents – push, cajole – even demand – it will be the best advice direction you can give them. My son through his college program obtained an internship each summer and then also a longer one (6 months) while he was enrolled in College. It allowed him to experience different aspects of the career he was embarking on. He was looking for a new internship every year so he really built his interviewing skills and has had a kick butt resume!

He got his dream job right out of school upon graduation in a dream location and stayed on his first post college job well over six years. Although I love him dearly and miss him – he has been able to avoid the common issue many kids his age have had – leaning on the parental unit for financial and housing support! (Major side benefit to this parental unit!)

Yes – the next stage of life rushes upon them fast and you want them to enjoy where they are before rushing on. I found through his experience that he embraced all life had to offer and was even more prepared to face the future. Yes best direction/advice you can give!
