My One Goal for 2012

December 30, 2011 14 Comments TAGS: Wellness

I’m sitting in the quiet room at the Polar Bear Spa in the Laurentians, where we are vacationing. I am currently alone. I just had a massage. And as I write this blog post on my Ipad, this is my view.

I can’t believe it’s the end of 2011. It seems like life is just whizzing by. I quote Ferris Bueller when I say, “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” But it’s true. In sitting here feeling introspective, I realize that life does move pretty quickly. If we don’t enjoy the moments, or have a little FUN every now and then, well, living becomes just existing, just functioning, and not truly living.

I stated in my last blog post, I hadn’t yet made my New Year’s resolutions. But I know now as I sit here, that my goal for 2012 is simple- to have more FUN. Be less serious. Enjoy the moments more. Not sweat the small stuff so much. In the words of Ferris – not miss life.

I know it’s easier said than done. Life sometimes hands us a big bowl of lemons. But in making our lemonade from those sour lemons, fun is truly something to strive for. I dare you to have more fun.

So yes, my resolution for 2012 is to really just, simply put, have more fun. Stop taking life so seriously. Live more in the moment. Show more gratitude and appreciation. I am driven to a fault, and sometimes, I miss the magic. I miss the joy. I don’t want to miss the magic in 2012.

Like this moment from this week.

So, as we ring in a New Year, pause and take a moment to think- what is my ONE GOAL for 2012? Instead of getting overwhelmed with all you hope to accomplish in 2012, I urge you perhaps to just pick one, and stick to it.

A word or two about sticking to your goal, and getting off the fence in life, “To achieve greatness, start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe

Cheers to a New Year m’ladies! Ka-Ching! Be safe.

I’d love to know, what is your ONE GOAL for 2012.

    1. Thank you for this post Erica. Your pictures and words are a fitting reminder to me of how the big stuff is there day after day driving our lives while the little things like laughter, fun and especially R & R take the back seat. It is my hope, this year, to ride in the back seat more often as the thought of cuddling with my old friend R & R is a pleasing one.

Great thoughts, Erica! And a fantastic view from that window – the perfect setting to inspire a blog post!

If I had to narrow it down to just one goal for 2012, it would be to believe in myself with more consistency and conviction. We all KNOW believing in yourself is such a key element to success, but when things aren’t going our way some days, it wavers. I want to really make the effort to minimize those doubts and fears that have the potential to hold me back.

I love that ‘having more fun’ is your goal and I wish you tons of success in making it happen. Looks like you’re off to a great start already!

    6. Great article!

I’ve always found that new years resolutions were just promises you didn’t feel bad about breaking and so rarely try to make them. I love the idea of just making ONE goal! Hopefully this will help me (and others) meet our goals.

I also have only 1 goal for myself for 2012:

It is to walk daily, rain or shine.

I didn’t know so many of us were in need of a little joy and fun! Wishing you all a happy, healthy, prosperous 2012. Xx

I can totally relate to life whizzing by! Especially with two young boys (my 2 look about the same age as yours!). I would love to have more fun, along with being more organized, healthier, etc… I could go on all night. 🙂 If I had to pick just one, and I know I ‘should’ – FUN would be right up there, just under organized – because man do I need to get organized!!
      Have a fabulous New Year!

Funny you post this blog. Just this morning I decided not to make a weight resolution. I chose to be more patient and have more fun with my kids. I need to have more fun myself and not stress over small things. They can always be fixed, most everything can. So, thank you. I needed this to give me that extra push to really stick with it.
