Let’s start with Sarah Palin: wife, mother, governor, on the campaign trail for Vice President… Moose Lover! As a society, we were fascinated by her. She was the brunt of many Saturday Night Live jokes. Her story was splashed all over magazine covers as well as the six o’clock news. Not only had she achieved tremendous professional success, she obviously had a marriage that was “hot” enough to produce five children. She appeared to “have it all.”

But truth be told, with the resurgence of feminism and a greater number of women in the workforce earning higher salaries than ever before, society is really becoming attuned to the needs of women. And we women want it all! We’re not willing to compromise. That picture we painted of a woman when we were little… we’re going for it! In fact, society is so fascinated with what women want, there’s actually a remake in the works of the original 2000 movie.

So, what exactly do women want?

Well, here are one journalist, Kalpana Sharma’s findings after a random poll. And let me tell you, we women are NOT on the fence here:

Women want to find true love!
Lusty women, passionate women, one-man women. Women want the same thing — they want the fairytale. Aah. They want to feel like Cinderella. Love still makes the world go round. One international model’s response from the poll, “One thing that I want the most is a person who loves me unconditionally. Believe me, if you get that one person, your life is perfect. I know many people who want money but what’s life without that someone special who loves you. My life is beautiful because of my boyfriend. A lot of people envy me for that.” Many women agree, you can have sex appeal, money and all else, but without love or someone to share your life with, it’s simply empty.

Women want to be a tigress at work!
When you see a woman pitching fresh ideas to her colleagues at the office or flying off to Paris for a meeting, she’s a woman who chooses her career, hands down. Many women find the surge of adrenalin they get from their jobs a high like no other.  Having a career, and therefore an identity separate from a man does wonders for a woman’s self esteem.  One college student in the study commented, “If you have a good career, then you can make money with which you can shop, socialize, have nice people around and also get a successful man as your partner.”

Women still want a good marriage!
We’re still traditional. You got it right. We want to be wooed, and then finally married happily. That’s what the vast majority of the women dream about. Is it easy? I quote Will Smith, who is known for having one of the few loving and long-lasting Hollywood marriages to Jada Pinkett Smith, “Marriage is the hardest thing you will ever do. The secret is removing divorce as
an option. Anybody who gives themselves that option will get a divorce.” Will Smith

Women want good friends
We all need a shoulder to cry on. The TV sitcom Friends has given us great lessons in love and friendships. When we’re down, the ‘dial-a-friend’ therapy works wonders. Every woman needs friends. Sex and the City depicted the epitome of living a great life with great friends. “Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend.” Albert Camus.

Women want to be high maintenance girls
Show me the money, honey! Yes, that’s what some women are singing. Gucci bags, Chanel glasses, Louboutin  heels, designer clothes and a penthouse apartment.  This is what the survey showed, women! We’re just calling a spade a spade.  Women like nice things.

Women want good sex!
We’ve underestimated how much women both want and love sex! While men are bragging about the amazing sex they are enjoying, women are left asking for more. Women are enjoying great sex today, and they also want their men to know, “Bad sex is a dampener!” So, the journalist who reported the survey findings was not surprised when 70% of women voted for good sex. I quote one of my faves, Madonna, “When I get down on my knees, it is not to pray.” Madonna.

Women want to be intellectuals!
Geena Davis and Sharon Stone each have IQs of over 150, and belong to MENSA. It is no longer desirable today to be just another pretty face. Women want the whole package; looks, love, family, power, and brains! They want to be respected.

So all this to say, as a whole, women today want it all, and are making it happen! Not without struggles along the way… hello! See my past six weeks of posts. We definitely struggle. But we are empowered, we’re smart, we’re capable.

“I am strong, I am woman, hear me roar!”

Ladies, tell our readers, what do YOU want?
